The tour explores the old town of Barcelona focusing on the Gothic Quarter and el Born so that you get feel for the history of the city and walk by its main monuments such as the Cathedral of Sana Eulàlia, the Roman walls, Sant Felip Neri, Plaça del Pi, Plaça de Sant Jaume, Plaça del Rei, Santa Maria del Mar and Santa Caterina market as well as you taste and enjoy amazing old tapas bars where you will taste the best food and drinks.

It is said that the origin of tapas dates back to the old taverns where Andalusian sherry drinkers used to cover their glasses between sips with thin slices of bread or meat. This was practical to prevent fruit flies from hovering over the sweet sherry. The meat used to cover the sherry was normally ham or chorizo, which are both very salty and activate thirst. A variety of snacks to serve with sherry was created thus increasing their alcohol sales until the tapas became as important as the sherry. Another story explains that the Castilian King Alfonso X El Sabio recovered from his illness by drinking wine with small dishes between meals and thus he asked all taverns to serve food with the wine.

Nowadays the tapas have evolved to a completely new concept of refined cuisine. Different regions in Spain offer a great number of tapas that keep changing and improving day after day with endless possibilities. You will try different tapas form various regions in the country.
